Adriatic Breeze

New Series

artist statement

Drawing from my time spent in Hrvatska (otherwise known as the country of Croatia), the influence behind this series derives from the feeling of a warm breeze in the heat of a July summer on the Adriatic Coast.

As I was creating this series, a lot of my memories associated with my time in Croatia pointed toward restfulness. A season of calm. Maybe this is simply because vacations are intended to be a period of leisure, but I think a lot of that has to do with the physical setting. From the calm movement of the waves against its stone beaches, to the slow pace of the tourist beach markets, The Adriatic Coast is special in that it so freely offers a sense of rest. I have such sweet memories of sipping an espresso on the cobblestone promenade all the while taking a step back to admire the beauty of the crystal clear water beneath the bridge. Moments in time still so vivid in my mind even months later.

This series aims to capture these moments and the feelings they left behind in their wake. These works were created to translate the physical feeling of a warm gust of ocean wind to the visual, through the use of muted blues, greens and soft neutral tones.

I hope you can enjoy these paintings as much as I appreciated reliving the memories that influenced them.
